The Gawler Community House Inc. is an independent incorporate body. We are a not-for-profit organisation, which means that we rely on grant funding and income from our business. We are registered with the Australian Tax Office as being a charitable institution, which allows us to apply for community and philanthropic grants. The premises we occupy belongs to the Town of Gawler (Gawler Council) and it is leased.
Gawler Community House became incorporated in 1980.
Our business consists of the Big shed Op-shop and plant shop, fee for service courses, and other fund-raising activities.
As well as providing community involvement activities, adult education is provided across a wide range of activities, including computing, Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN), art, crafts, creative writing, Mosaics, Photography and more.
The Community House is managed by a Board of Management, consisting of local business people, volunteers and other stakeholders. The Board employs two staff members, House Manager and Administration/Volunteer Coordinator.
Gawler Community House encourages self-development and personal growth through involvement. Most importantly, we value the contribution of all people's knowledge, skills and abilities.
Gawler Community House provides the following:
A place for friendship, support and building community networks;
Information, resources and a referral service for people within the community;
Life-skills, health, recreation and education programs which build skills and knowledge;
Encouragement of preventative practices through health, welfare and social justice.
